Cannot add/connect CR200X to a new laptop

Maggie Oct 8, 2018 04:58 AM

Hi all,

I am having trouble setting up communication between a new laptop and an established datalogger.  It's in a remote site, so removal and troubleshooting with a desktop PC is not an option.  The laptop used to connect to the dataloggers no longer works (as a computer, nothing to do with the dataloggers), but I am using the same serial/USB cable.

However, I have had no success connecting to the CR200X out in the field.

PC200W 4.5 is in use.  With the EZsetup wizard, once I get to the Com Port selection page, there are no selections I can make in the dropdown menu as it is empty.  Installing USB drivers makes no difference.  The laptop recognizes it is connected to something and identifies the lack of driver as the issue, but I cannot figure out how to remedy this.

Help!  And thank you!

It might be that the cable is too old to have a driver that works with the current version of Windows.

A new cable is inexpensive. Be sure to get one that uses a FTDI chip in it. Those have the best driver compatibility. The 17394 cable we sell is Sabrent model CB-FTDI.
